It is a fundamental part of a cardiological assessment.<\/p><p><strong>What is<\/strong><strong> it<\/strong><strong>;<\/strong><\/p><p>It is a record of the electrical currents that flow through the heart by using an automatic electrocardiograph.<\/p><p>After lying down on the examination table, we connect 12 electrodes to your chest, arms and legs. \u00a0A light shave may be needed in some areas for better placement of the electrodes. The electrodes are connected via cables to the automatic electrocardiogram machine. During the recording you should lie still, breathe normally without talking. The whole process takes about 10 minutes.<\/p><p>Using appropriate algorithms, modern machines are able to present and analyze a complete electrocardiographic image of the heart at the time of the examination. After the test, the ECG can be saved electronically or printed if you need copies.<\/p><p><strong>Where is it used?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>It can help rule out serious heart diseases such as myocardial infarction.<\/li><li>It is part of the algorithm for the management of patients with suspected chest pain or palpitations and determines the treatment of these patients.<\/li><li>Provides useful information regarding\u00a0 the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with arrhythmias\u00a0 such as atrial fibrillation.<\/li><li>Indicates\u00a0abnormalities in the structure of the heart such as hypertrophy of the walls and dilation of the atria.<\/li><li>Evaluates the effects of antiarrhythmic medication.<\/li><li>Examines the operation of the pacemaker.<\/li><li>Helps diagnose genetic diseases such as Brugada syndrome or long QT syndrome that have been associated with sudden cardiac death.<\/li><\/ul><p>Please contact us in case you need personalized detailed clarifications.
