This will determine if there are heart rhythm problems, such as atrial fibrillation, and thus help plan the appropriate treatment.<\/p><p><strong>What is;<\/strong><\/p><p>It is a device with a size of a cell phone and is connected to to your body via usually seven electrodes. It can be placed in a special case around your waist or hung around your neck. During the recording period, you are advised to keep a diary of any symptoms you may be experiencing. It is recommended to follow your normal routine during the day.<\/p><p><strong>Where is it used?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Patients who have symptoms indicative of the presence of an arrhythmia (palpitations) however it is difficult to record it on a single electrocardiogram as it does not happen often.\u00a0<\/li><li>To monitor the effectiveness of the existing medication for possible modification.<\/li><li>Risk stratification in certain subcategories of diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy that present with an increased risk of sudden cardiac death.<\/li><li>Studies have shown that 20% of strokes in patients over 70 years of age may be due to subclinical atrial fibrillation.
